A minor change that I would like to consider is how the league processed unowned players. The current setup is Free Agents with the roster change going through the next day (daily - tomorrow). In practice this would be:
- Transaction to drop Mike Trout for Ronald Acuna placed on Tuesday. Goes through immediately, and roster for Wednesday has Acuna on your team instead of Trout.
My suggestion is to go to continuous daily waivers that are processed immediately (not sure the wording, but continuous - today). In practice this would be:
- Transaction to drop Mike Trout for Ronald Acuna placed on Tuesday. Goes through at waiver process time (say 3 AM Wednesday), and roster for Wednesday has Acuna on your team instead of Trout.
The benefit of the continuous waiver setup is that when news breaks on a player, it's not a rush to see who is the first one that can get to the league to do a pickup/drop. Everyone has a chance during that day to put in a claim if they want. A side effect is that it gives more value to the waiver priority as well. This is an unrealistic example but it will illustrate the point.
Ex. The next Mike Trout is in the minors and is not owned by anyone and also in the Yahoo Player Pool. Several sources break news at 12 pm that he is being called up. Darrin gets a notification at that time that he is being called up and goes to the league to pick him up. I don't have notifications and on top of that, i'm in a work meeting and can't get to the league before 2 pm, so even if I did i couldn't go to the league to make the claim. I don't ever have a fair chance to get him. If we had continuous waivers, i would have until the waiver process time (say 3 am the next day) to put that claim in.
It's not a perfect solution, as breaking news from late games will have less time to react (say a closer gets hurt in a west coast game at 1 am) but it does even the field somewhat.
