Obviously I was way off base. I thought that more would at least like to give their two cents, but I was wrong. My apologies.

Not off base at all. I totally get your stance, kind of shocking no one else cares to even give their two cents on it.

i'm fine either way. I have been actively trading for draft picks to keep at 30, and have been able to because others in the league didn't want picks. With the new owners, that might be different, but i drafted prospects in such a way where they should promote in staggered groups to try to stay around 30 players.
There might be a way to give teams that need to fill their minors more picks without it hurting those that are less in need. One example could be letting them "deal" picks, like trading in a 1st round pick for a 2nd and 4th. Those picks would come at the end of the round. Owners that don't need to do that have their earlier picks move up slightly as a result.
Either way, its really up to the new owners and those short on minors to voice their opinions. It might get more discussion posted in Yahoo now as well, as not everyone checks this board often.

The mob has spoken with silence. I would love to gut my minors and restock them. Probably have 15 cuts. But if half the league does not give a f^ck what are you gonna do?

Back to the elephant in the room...The new guys may want to brush up on the topic. Are we looking to get this league back up to 30 minor leaguers per team?
After we finish drafting 60 players in the minor league draft, we will be short 55 minor leaguers. I would propose that we have a supplemental draft right AFTER the 2024 Minor league player draft. That way we have a year to prepare. Any team that needs minors would be able to make picks to get their team back up to 30 minor leaguers. I am guessing there will be some resistance to this, but I believe if you want to keep the league healthy...meaning not churning the 3-5 new owners each year, this is the direction to go.
Lets discuss it...

As always it is open for a discussion. I do not personally like the idea and again am more in favor of leaving it as is, maintaining the value of the draft picks. I do understand the idea that it will help the replacement owners that have come on board though. I would be open to maybe expanding the draft by a couple of rounds instead of simple allowing just the ones under the limit to hold a supplemental draft. Like making the yearly draft 7 rounds instead of 5 (an increase of 24 players) this will allow the owners with room in the minors to fill their systems and also allow for owners with fuller systems to discard failed prospects or trade picks to those that have room for more. If we were to go this route I would also suggest making the extended round picks non-tradeable. Half the issue is that some owners systems suck and are short because the owner trades all the picks away, hence why we find ourselves even having this discussion.

I agree that having 7-8 rounds of draft picks each year would help. There are many prospects that fizzle every couple of years. If the only way to add prospects is through the draft, then it would be nice to be able to move on from them more than every 5-6 years under the current structure.

I have been a part of leagues where you can add non-FYPD minors at anytime, and a part of leagues where draft picks cannot be traded. Pros and cons to both. I personally really liked this style that we have when I saw it because it has placed the most value on draft picks of any league I have been in, because they are so limited. Not everyone is going to be maxed out at 30 all the time and having excess picks is valuable so you can release the prospects that don’t work out. It’s not perfect obviously and you have already laid out the cons.
I personally would not be in favor of the let everyone fill up their minors after the 2024 draft or expanding it to 7 rounds, but that’s just my opinion and respect if the majority feels otherwise.
As a compromise, I have been a part of a league where the teams that miss the playoffs get a supplemental pick or two to help close the gap and I like that as well. Last place gets a pick at the end of the 1st round, second to last gets a pick at the end of the 2nd round, etc… or some modified version that is agreeable. I know that’s not what you are looking for but that’s my two cents. Thanks

We didn't have a Minor League Draft in 2021 due to the shortened COVID season. This had a lasting effect on our Minor Rosters. I would propose increasing the number of Minor League Draft Rounds to 7 for the 2024, 2025 & possibly the 2026. This should get us caught up. I'd rather spread them out over a couple years as more FYPD guys would be in the mix, rather than scraping the bottom of the barrel in 1 longer draft.

New to the league and without knowledge/history of maybe win now trades made that may have left some minor's rosters less stocked I'm good to follow almost (not extra picks only for certain teams) whatever longer-term owners decide.....and makes the league more competitive/fun.
just thinking - 30 minors spots for an annual 5 round draft? an expected 6 year turnover? a few prospects may take 5 or 6 years. but most either hit or flame out earlier.....some far earlier.

Ok. I will put to a vote tomorrow on whether we expand to a 7 round draft starting in 2024 (allowing teams to jettison more flame outs or restock systems quicker) or if we keep everything as is and continue with the 5 round format currently in place. We will need all 12 owners to vote and will go with majority decision. If tied we will keep the format as is and reopen for discussion again in the future.
