What does Fantrax cost? I'd be interested in switching depending on cost.

There is a $100 version that is extremely customizable. There is also a free version, which can do exactly what we have now, and will also have your minors on the same page as your majors. The messaging system isnt very good, but the league setup is excellent. The app isn't as easy to use as yahoo, but like anything, you just have to get used to it.

I am curious if there is any more thought about switching sites? As I am trying to look through everyone's prospects and rosters, for potential trade partners, it sure would be nice to have them all in one spot...

I don't care much for fantrax myself but do like the options allowed for sure. Navigation is slower and more of a pain. chat feature is ok but also very glitchy. trading interface and pending trades was a bitch to navigate and stayed kind of hidden and away from your attention. It definitely is not as user friendly as yahoo. The perk i see is allowing for the minor league rosters and for the ability to conduct drafts in one place without having to completely change sites for offseason. Unsure if you can adjust eligibility rules for players or not in the free version though. I wouldn't want to change multiple rules or pay for service just to make the minors more accessible. yeah this stinks to have to reference, but it is doable. So unless i hear an overwhelming majority want to move I would just as well stay put. Just my opinion.

So maybe this is worth a revisit. Yahoo has removed some features that were pretty useful in our league. The key one being the message boards. They also removed some of the stats for player searches. Fantrax allows slow draft, year round play, minor league rosters, etc. The interface is not as nice as Yahoo's in my opinion but the options and ability to have everything in one place make it something to seriously consider. The two way player ability is also an added perk that makes life easier since commish control will not have to constantly add/drop Ohtani to make sure he doesnt count against the weekly add limit. I am pretty certain we can keep the league in the "free settings" category. We can also switch to Fantrax treasurer to keep it all in one place (assuming that works for our Canadian participants) Again, not saying that we are switching, just bringing it up to get peoples thoughts on the matter.

I love the idea. I agree that Yahoo's app is easier to use, but we can eliminate a lot of what we have to dig and search around for on Proboards. I am all for switching.

I've never used Fantrax for a fantasy league purposes before. That being said, I had to get used to Yahoo when I first started too. If it serves our purpose and has the features we like, I'll get used to it. I'm sure there will be an adjustment period but having the minors included sounds like a bonus.

I can create a clone of the yahoo league on fantrax to let people check it out. For now we can assume the season will be yahoo as we anticipated but yahoo has been getting worse and worse so guessing that the change will need to happen sooner or later. I am off Thursday, so can import rosters onto yahoo then and also fantrax after. Even if we don’t switch right now at least it can be set up and ready to go.

So I have been playing around with fantrax to see how close to our current league set up we could get. I have found several differences that can not be changed, and several more that can only be changed if we went with the premium version (which I do not wish to do since collecting extra payments is a pain in the ass). Some of the noted differences..position eligibility. Pitcher eligibility is the same but hitters do not have the option of games started. It is only games played. Yahoo uses 5 starts or 10 games played. While the minor leagues are available, the free version doesn’t let you specify minor league eligibility. So basically anyone can be placed in the minors. Also can not prevent minors from being called up and then demoted. Expecting the commissioners to monitor this daily is not feasible so the whole rule would need to change. Similarly nothing would stop a player from being added directly to a minor league roster except commissioner intervention, I do not like having to police every move as there are vacations, family outings, etc throughout the summer that make daily monitoring of rosters impossible. So again, this would require some sort of a rule change. There were a few other small things I ran into as well. I will proceed with cloning the league in fantrax and inviting everyone to join and check it out. I would suggest we proceed with yahoo for this season and work on a potential move if needed next offseason. This would give us ample time to readjust any rules, make concessions, give owners a chance to see both formats, etc.

Yahoo has a better interface, but Fantrax is WAY better for dynasty style leagues. Fantrax premium is also probably worth the added $$$ for tons of customization. It's my understanding that Fantrax Customer Service is also superior.

I had my first dynasty league on fantrax last year (it since folded). The customization was lightyears ahead of yahoo. The rules for that league were a bit different than this one so we were able to avoid going premium (which is I believe an additional $8.33 each in a 12 team league). Even with premium we would be required to change some rules which fantrax can not be customized to match our settings/rules. Once I got used to fantrax it was easy to use, I just preferred the easy of yahoo. Sadly yahoo is getting worse each year and becoming a has-been in the fantasy sports business. I think they just don’t make enough money anymore to support it. Verizon bought Yahoo and pretty much gave up on it. They tried daily fantasy but couldn’t compete with fanduel and draft kings. Now they are just treading water.

Well there was nothing for stopping you from adding players to your minor league roster. You can set minor league requirements (<250 ab etc) but cant stop anyone from adding a minor leaguer if they have room on their roster. That was in premium. For the free version we couldn’t even set the ab requirement. Also couldn’t prevent someone from dropping them back to minors once promoted (which was really just a rule for our own ease of tracking minor leaguers since we didn’t have access to them on yahoo, would have been impossible to track who was called up, who was sent down, who was actually dropped and not sent down, etc). The roster flexibility is a bit stricter too in the free version as it becomes a pain in the ass to add players without rearranging rosters to prevent illegal rosters. Premium you can set it up to make the move then adjust the line up to make sense after the fact. Again, I will try Thursday to get it all inputted and send out invites so people can play around and test it, will do yahoo first, so you can all compare the features (I won’t import 2023 draftees until post draft though)
